The Challenges of Effective Wasp Control
Posted by gpost in : Uncategorized , trackbackThere is nothing quite as unexpectedly painful as a wasp sting. The creatures may seem like no match for grown humans, but they are actually very powerful insects with the capability to incapacitate much larger creatures with one sting. Though wasps serve a very important environmental purpose, they can be incredibly troublesome, especially during the late summer months. If you have had trouble with wasps, but you are unaware of the best methods of eradication, you may feel like surrendering to the aggressive insects. Fortunately, there are some simple, but challenging methods available which you can use to reduce the impact of these creatures on your life.
The best way to completely eradicate wasps from your property is to find and destroy the creatures’ nests. Though this might sound simple, the process must be completed very carefully so that you do not anger the wasps and become a target of their vicious stings. In fact, many people have decided that the risk involved in taking down a nest is greater than the risks associated with tolerating the wasps. If you are capable of tolerating the wasps and you do not feel endangered by them, you may want to avoid taking down a nest. On the other hand, if you have had enough of the wasps tormenting you and your family, you must complete the nest removal mission.
Once you have located the wasps’ nest, you should begin to plan the best way of knocking the nest down. You should also formulate an escape plan in case you fail at your mission and anger the wasps. If you plan to take down the nest without the aid of chemicals, you should plan to knock the nest down during the night time hours. This way, the wasps may become irritated, but they will be less interested in flying and retaliating. Use a flashlight, but remember to never shine the light directly at the nest, since wasps are attracted to sources of illumination. Carefully knock the nest down to the ground with a long pole or other implement, then seek safety immediately. Once activity has settled down near the nest, you can cautiously destroy it. While engaging in this process, be sure to wear heavy clothing, or a bee suit, if possible.
If you are interested in using chemical sprays or powders to get rid of the nest, you can keep yourself more safe. Some sprays are available which are designed to shoot a stream powerful enough to knock down a nest while incapacitating the wasps. If you have access to this type of spray, it may be your best option. Other sprays and powders can be used to treat the inside of a nest before attempting to knock it down. This makes it less likely that you will be attacked by wasps as you remove the nest.
Getting rid of wasps is never an easy task. It requires you to use extreme caution if you want to do the job effectively. The only way to eliminate the creatures permanently is to eliminate nests, but removing them is very challenging. If you are up to the challenge, be sure to prepare yourself and learn all you can about wasp behavior before you get to work.
